Implementation Period: 2023 – 2025.
Project Goal: Creation of modified bitumen compositions and asphalt concrete mixtures based on the rational utilization of industrial waste from enterprises of the Republic of Kazakhstan to increase the service life of road surfaces.
Expected Results: Selection and testing of the physical and mechanical properties of asphalt concrete mixtures. Development of formulations for modified bitumen-mineral compositions for road surfaces based on conducted tests, allowing for improved environmental aspects, enhanced quality of bituminous binders, and making scientifically justified decisions on determining optimal additive concentrations and predicting their efficiency. A Technological Regulation for the proposed composition will be developed.
Project Description: The implementation of the tasks of this Project will lead to the creation of modified bitumen-mineral compositions without complicating the existing technological process. This technology can be rapidly applied in road construction practices at existing production sites, as the modifiers are dosed simultaneously and mixed into a homogeneous mass in a container with molten bitumen (T=130°C).
Research on the microstructure of modified bitumens will be conducted. A methodology will be developed for determining the quantitative indicators of cohesive and adhesive failure of contact surfaces between mineral fillers and modified bitumen using computer-optical microscopy, including the method and algorithm of its implementation. Selection of composition and testing of the physical and mechanical properties of asphalt concrete mixtures. Development of formulations for modified bitumen-mineral compositions for road surfaces based on conducted tests.
