The Role of Religions in Preserving the Spiritual and Moral Values of Society Discussed at the University

The Department of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan organised a briefing dedicated to the Day of Spiritual Harmony on the topic: “The Role of Religions in Preserving the Spiritual and Moral Values of Society.” The event focused on the spiritual and moral values upheld by traditional religions, as well as on promoting unity and harmony within society. Among the invited guests were: Alexander Nikiforov, Honoured Professor of the Department of History of Kazakhstan and Law;

Muhammad Abdullah, Chief Imam of the district mosque in the Magzhan Zhumabayev district; Priest Mikhail Berezin, Rector of the Church of the Holy Martyr Methodius; Father Pavel Mrocek, Vicar of the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Petropavlovsk.

Other participants included: Bagdat Mukanova, Head of the Department for the Analysis of Interethnic Relations of the Internal Policy Department of North Kazakhstan Region; Alexander Zel, Acting Secretary of the Bolashak branch of the AMANAT Party; Oleg Sinyakov, Head of the Monitoring Department at the Centre for the Study of Religion in Astana. The speakers discussed the shared spiritual and moral values promoted by all religions, the peaceful essence of Islam and the concept of jihad, the Orthodox Church’s stance on harmful habits and addictions, and the Catholic Church’s views on marriage and family. They unanimously agreed that religion plays a vital role in nurturing spiritual development and encourages people to be tolerant, kind, and compassionate.
