The grand opening ceremony of the modern Students' House was held in Petropavlovsk with the participation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, Akim of the North Kazakhstan region Gauez Nurmukhambetov and a delegation from the University of Arizona, which has been a strategic partner of the North Kazakhstan University for the fourth year.
"The University of Arizona is our pride, the first example of a successful partnership. The initial goal was to create academic hubs based on regional universities. And today we see that double-degree programs attract young people from all over Kazakhstan as well as abroad. The second goal is to transform Kozybayev University into an international research university. Good news: this university was selected for a big program called "Centers of Academic Excellence". Now, every year, Kozybayev University will receive additional funding for equipping and increasing its research potential, inviting "star" professors, and retraining personnel. The point is that the University of Arizona is a major partner of the US Department of Agriculture that manages experimental fields in Arizona. The Akimat of the North Kazakhstan region immediately saw the potential. And now, together with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, we will help Kozybayev University to become a strong, agrotechnical research hub for the entire northern region of the country... Because a university is not just a simple academic platform. The university is an economic and investment anchor,” said Sayasat Nurbek.
Thanks to this cooperation with the University of Arizona, joint educational programs are being successfully implemented, where over 1,000 people are already studying. To cover the students’ accommodation needs, the university opened a new dormitory for 156 places. Also the building houses 25 apartments for professors who will teach students belonging to international programs. All rooms are equipped with modern furniture and new home appliances. Another Students’ House for 1,200 places is planned to be opened soon. Thus, 100% of out-of-town students of Kozybaev University will be provided with dormitories.
