Social life of the university students is unified according to the concept and program of educative work. Students’ public organizations and scientific societies function actively, as well as effectively working institution of tutors. KVN (Club of Witty and Merry) is very popular among the students. The university KVN team is the final winner of the National competition. For over 20 years, two Students’ Amateur theatres “Pilgrim” and “Krivoye Zerkalo” (Distorting mirror) have been performing at the university. The dance group “Rendezvous” is a great success. There is a show-room working permanently and a hall specially equipped for ballroom dancing. Various sports festivals and championships are regularly held. Among the honored guests of the university at different periods were the President of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbayev, the president of Children’s Fund “Bobek” S.A. Nazarbayeva, cosmonauts V.S. Viktorenko and T. Aubakirov, representative of OBSE Van-der Stool, Ambassadors of France and Great Britain, prominent writers, actors and artistic groups.

The university sports facilities consisting of 5 sports halls, 2 jims, and a stadium allow to train athletes of high qualification, to have mass sports events and to involve students in taking up sports. Among the students of the university were such famous athletes as V. Shakshabayev – a participant of two Olympiads, world record-holder in skating among the youths; A. Vinokurov – a member of the Olympic team, Asian games champion in cycle-race; K. Safin – the winner of the USSR Boxing Championship, the World Cup silver prize-winner; V. Klepinin – a member of the Olympic team, National Champion in skating; A. Grigoryev – the winner of the USSR Skating Championship. The university men’s basketball team is a repeated prizewinner of the National Championships.

There is a students’ TV-studio “Parasat” at the NKSU whose programs are broadcast on a regional channel in Kazakh and Russian twice a week. Students create and produce programs on their own. Modern TV equipment and satellite television are used for preparation of the students’ programs. Students’ newspaper “The Parasat” issued on the regular basis offers coverage of educational, social, cultural and sports life of the university.

There are the following artistic associations in the agency:

1. Students’ Amateur theatre “Pilgrim” – over 6 performances a year including fairytales for children and dramatic works.
2. Students’ Amateur theatre “Krivoye Zerkalo” – production of contest show-programs, variety miniatures and dramatic works.
3. Modern choreography group – over 7 dancing performances a year, a participant of modern choreography festivals.
4. Sound-recording studio – production of phonograms and musical arrangements, discothèque show-programs.
5. Costumier’s – theatre costumes and properties hire-out.
6. Art workshop – creation and production of stage sets and theatre properties.

Creative staff of the NKSU Artistic Agency “SOS”:

1. Gumarova Zarema – the association leader, the head of the methodic centre, which is creating and spreading thematic scenarios, show-programs organizer, concert leader.
2. Basargina Zinaida – the Students’ Amateur theatre “Pilgrim” producer, a teacher of the dramatic speech culture and scenic movements, an art-critic, director and producer of children’s New Year shows.
3. Anohina Valentina – a stage-designer, specialist in theatre properties and stage set producing.
4. Soldatova Anna – the Students’ Amateur theatre “Krivoye Zerkalo” producer; script-writer, director and producer of mass festivals, pop singer.
5. Smotrov Vitaly – sound-producer, specialist in phonogram and arrangement composition, a DJ.
6. Marinets Alyona – the head of the modern choreography group, producer of choreography shows and variety dances.
7. Frash Yelena – an expert costumier.
