The Republic of Kazakhstan Championship for swimming began in the swimming-pool of the education-sports complex of NKSU in March, 6.

Teams from 13 regions of our Republic and the national team of Uzbekistan took part in the given Championaship struggling for prize-winning places. The competition lasted 5 days. According to Galiya Hkarisova, the manager of the swimming-pool and main Umpire of the Championship, the competition of such a level was held in our town for the first time. The swimmers were evaluated by referees from every region, the University’s teachers, students and trainers of the swimmimg-pool Delfin.

Nikolai Mikhailov, the state trainer of the Republic of Kazakhstan for swimming pointed out objectives of the Championship: ‘Here we are forming the national team of Kazakstan that will participate in Summer Asian Games. Moreover, the given Championship contributes to find out the strongest swimmers and define their readiness for the future competition. In accordance with the results the umpire’s board forms a rating’.

About 100 swimmers competed in the Championship desplaying various swimming styles at different distances. Sportsmen of different age groups took part in the competition. Here students had a chance to compete with famous and experienced sportsmen, winners of Championships of Kazakstan and World Championships as well.

Winners were awarded every day in accordance with a day’s results, gained points were summed up into a team’s score. Thus, after a 5-day competition the team from Almaty was awarded with a first-place prize, the team from Karaganda took a second-place award and the sportsmen from Pavlodar were awarded with a third-place prize.

There are our students among the winners as well. A. Trush at the distance of 1500 metres in free style and D. Gapodchenko who swam 50 metres in brace took a third-place prize.

In A. Trush’s opinion: ‘now when we are provided with the swimming-pool we have all possibilities and opportunities for trainings, this gives us a chance to win in the Summer Championship of the Republic of Kazakhstan’.
